What does 1 Timothy 5:3 mean?
Paul is telling Timothy to make sure the church takes care of widows who have no one else to support them. "Widows indeed" means those who are truly alone and vulnerable, without family or resources to survive. In Timothy's time, this was a practical matter of survival, since widows had very few ways to earn income or support themselves. The word "honor" here means more than respect, it means to provide for and value them. Paul is calling the church to see these vulnerable people as worthy of care and protection, not as burdens. It's a reminder that faith shows itself most clearly in how we treat those with the fewest options.
