What does 1 Timothy 2:7 mean?
Paul is reminding his young friend Timothy about his calling and credentials. He's saying that God specifically appointed him to preach, to carry the gospel to non-Jewish people, and to teach with both faithfulness and honesty. That parenthetical aside, "I am telling the truth in Christ, not lying," might seem odd until you remember Paul was often attacked by people who questioned whether he was really an apostle or if he was making things up. By inserting this earnest statement right in the middle of his sentence, he's not just informing Timothy of facts, but defending his authority and integrity.
