What does 1 Timothy 1:15 mean?
Paul is affirming something so essential to faith that it deserves to be believed and held close: Jesus came specifically to rescue people trapped in sin, not to reward those who already have it figured out. What makes this statement so personal and moving is that Paul, despite being an apostle and leader, refuses to distance himself from that need—he calls himself the foremost of sinners, likely thinking of how he once persecuted Christians before his encounter with Jesus transformed him. By putting himself at the very bottom of the list, he's not being falsely humble but rather showing us that no one is beyond reach, no past too dark, no mistake too big for Christ's purpose in coming. If the chief of sinners can be saved, so can you.
