What does 1 Thessalonians 4:18 mean?
Paul ends his teaching about Christ's return by pointing us toward each other. When he says to comfort one another with these words, he's reminding the Thessalonians (who were anxious about what happens to believers who die before Jesus returns) that they have real hope to share with each other. The comfort isn't just something to feel alone in your room, it's meant to be passed along, person to person, in community. There's something beautiful here about how our faith works best when we're not isolated with it. Maybe you're struggling with fear about the future or grief about loss, and someone reminds you of God's promises. Or maybe you're the one doing the reminding for someone else. Either way, we're called to be bearers of hope to one another, especially in hard moments when doubt or sorrow feels overwhelming.
