1 Samuel 9:17
“When Samuel saw Saul, Yahweh said to him, “Behold, the man of whom I spoke to you! He will have authority over my people.””
What does 1 Samuel 9:17 mean?
God had already prepared Samuel's heart for this moment, telling him that the person walking toward him would become Israel's first king. When Saul actually appeared, Samuel recognized him as the one God had chosen, even though Saul himself had no idea why he was even there (he'd come looking for his father's lost donkeys). This moment marks the beginning of something significant: God was about to give Israel a human leader to unite the tribes and defend them against their enemies. It's a beautiful reminder that God often works ahead of us, preparing both the way and the people involved, even when we're just going about our ordinary day.
