What does 1 Samuel 8:10 mean?
Samuel delivered God's full warning to the Israelites about what it would actually mean to have a human king ruling over them. The people had demanded a king because they wanted to be like the surrounding nations, but God wanted Samuel to make sure they understood the cost: a king would take their sons for his army, their daughters for his service, their land, and their wealth. Samuel wasn't hiding God's message or softening it; he was being faithful by telling them everything, even the hard parts. Sometimes the most loving thing we can do is tell people the whole truth about the consequences of their choices, not just what they want to hear.
