What does 1 Samuel 30:14 mean?
An Amalekite soldier is describing to David the raid that devastated his own town while he and his men were away fighting elsewhere. The "South" refers to the Negev region, the dry southern territory where these groups lived. What makes this confession significant is that it's happening after David has just defeated this same raiding party, and the soldier is bargaining for his life by telling David exactly what happened, including that Ziklag, where David's wives and people lived, was burned to the ground.
