“David said in his heart, “I will now perish one day by the hand of Saul. There is nothing better for me than that I should escape into the land of the Philistines; and Saul will despair of me, to seek me any more in all the borders of Israel. So shall I escape out of his hand.””
What does 1 Samuel 27:1 mean?
David is in a dark place here, convinced that no matter what he does, Saul will eventually hunt him down and kill him. So he decides his only option is to defect to the Philistines, Israel's enemies, thinking that distance and a change of allegiance will finally buy him safety.
