“Now I have heard that you have shearers. Your shepherds have now been with us, and we didn’t harm them, neither was there anything missing from them, all the while they were in Carmel.”
What does 1 Samuel 25:7 mean?
David and his men had been traveling near Nabal's land during sheep-shearing season, a time when shepherds would be vulnerable to bandits and thieves. Rather than taking advantage of that moment, David's group actually protected Nabal's workers and didn't steal from them, even though they had the power and opportunity to do so. David is essentially saying, "We've been good neighbors to you when we didn't have to be, and now we're asking for a small gift in return."
