1 Samuel 24:18

You have declared today how you have dealt well with me, because when Yahweh had delivered me up into your hand, you didn’t kill me.

What does 1 Samuel 24:18 mean?

David had just spared King Saul's life when he could have killed him in a cave, and Saul is deeply moved by this act of mercy. He's recognizing that David treated him with honor and restraint, choosing not to take revenge even though the opportunity was right there. What Saul calls "dealing well" is really about David's character, his refusal to become the very thing he fears, and his trust that God will work out justice rather than him taking it into his own hands. This moment shows us that sometimes the hardest and most powerful thing we can do is show mercy to someone we have power over, especially when we've been wronged.
