What does 1 Samuel 22:14 mean?
Ahimelech the priest is defending David's character to King Saul, who suspects everyone around him of disloyalty. By listing David's connections to the royal family and his trusted position, Ahimelech is essentially saying, "Why would someone so close to you and so honored in your household betray you?" It's an appeal based on what seems obvious: David has every reason to be loyal. The sad irony here is that Saul's paranoia makes him unable to hear this reasonable defense.
