What does 1 Samuel 21:1 mean?
David has just fled his home because King Saul wants to kill him, and he shows up at a priest's house in the town of Nob looking for help. The priest Ahimelech is immediately alarmed—he can sense something is very wrong, which is why he comes out shaking and asking why David is traveling without his usual companions or guards. This moment captures the fear and isolation David feels as he begins running for his life, and it shows how his desperation is visible to everyone he encounters.
