1 Samuel 2:22
“Now Eli was very old; and he heard all that his sons did to all Israel, and how that they slept with the women who served at the door of the Tent of Meeting.”
What does 1 Samuel 2:22 mean?
Eli's sons were priests who abused their position terribly, taking advantage of women who served at the sacred tent and treating the whole community with contempt. As Eli grew older and weaker, he had heard the rumors about their behavior but apparently did nothing to stop it. This verse captures a painful moment where we see a leader aware of serious wrongdoing yet seemingly paralyzed to act, which sets up the consequences that follow in this story. Sometimes the hardest part isn't learning something is wrong, but finding the courage to confront it in those close to us.
