What does 1 Samuel 18:12 mean?
Saul had been Israel's king, but his disobedience created a spiritual distance between him and God. When the young warrior David arrived at court, people saw something different in him: God's presence and favor were clearly visible. That same presence terrified Saul, partly because he recognized what he'd lost and partly because he sensed David's growing power and popularity. Fear can make us do desperate things, and Saul's dread of David would soon drive him toward increasingly destructive choices. It's a sobering picture of what happens when we push away from God while watching others draw closer to him.
