What does 1 Samuel 14:39 mean?
Saul has just made a rash vow that anyone who eats food before evening will die, and his own son Jonathan unknowingly breaks this oath. When Saul discovers what happened, he declares that Jonathan must die, even though Jonathan is his beloved son and has just won a great victory for Israel.
