1 Samuel 12:7
“Now therefore stand still, that I may plead with you before Yahweh concerning all the righteous acts of Yahweh, which he did to you and to your fathers.”
What does 1 Samuel 12:7 mean?
Samuel is calling the people to pause and listen as he reminds them of God's faithfulness throughout their history. He's about to walk them through how God repeatedly rescued and protected their ancestors, from Egypt through the wilderness and into the land they now occupy. This moment comes right after Israel has asked for a king, and Samuel wants them to see the full picture of God's care before they move forward with that decision. There's something deeply human in what Samuel is doing here: when we're making big changes or feeling restless, we often forget the goodness we've already experienced. Samuel is essentially saying, "Stop. Remember. Look at what God has actually done."
