What does 1 Peter 5:9 mean?

When Peter tells us to resist the devil with firm faith, he's not asking us to do it alone or in silence. He's reminding us that countless other believers throughout history and around the world right now are facing their own struggles—the same kinds of doubts, fears, temptations, and hardships we encounter. That knowledge is surprisingly powerful. When you're in pain or wrestling with something difficult, remembering that others have walked this path before and are walking it alongside you can steady your resolve in ways that willpower alone cannot. You're not weak for struggling, and you're not strange for feeling tested. You're simply part of a much larger community of people learning to hold onto faith even when it's hard.
