1 Peter 4:5
βwho will give account to him who is ready to judge the living and the dead.β
What does 1 Peter 4:5 mean?
All of us, believer and non-believer alike, will one day stand before God and answer for how we lived. Peter is reminding early Christians facing persecution that their accusers and those who mock them won't escape accountability, even if earthly courts never touch them. This isn't meant to be a threat but a comfort: if you're being treated unfairly or crushed by injustice right now, there is a Judge who sees everything and whose judgment is final. The "living and the dead" simply means everyone across all time will face this reckoning, so no one slips through unnoticed by God.
