1 Kings 9:6
“But if you turn away from following me, you or your children, and not keep my commandments and my statutes which I have set before you, but go and serve other gods, and worship them;”
What does 1 Kings 9:6 mean?
God is laying out a warning to Solomon and his descendants about what happens when we drift away from him. The promise of blessing that came with the temple and kingdom isn't automatic or guaranteed forever, it depends on actually staying connected to God and following his ways. When we abandon that relationship to chase after other things that promise to fulfill us—whether that's literally other gods in ancient times or whatever we prioritize over God today—we set ourselves up for consequences. This isn't God being harsh or waiting for an excuse to punish, it's the simple reality that cutting ourselves off from our source of life has real outcomes.
