What does 1 Kings 9:15 mean?

Solomon had grown wealthy and powerful, and he wanted to build grand structures that would honor God and establish his kingdom's strength. To accomplish all these building projects, he required a labor force drawn from his own people, which is what this "levy" refers to. These weren't volunteer workers but conscripted laborers tasked with constructing the temple, the royal palace, fortified cities, and walls that would protect Jerusalem. It's a practical snapshot of what it cost, in human terms, to realize the ambitious vision of a thriving nation under God.
