What does 1 Kings 8:18 mean?

God affirms David's desire to build a temple, even though David himself won't be the one to complete it. There's something deeply encouraging here: God values the longing and intention of our hearts, not just the finished results we manage to achieve. Sometimes circumstances, timing, or our own limitations prevent us from accomplishing what we genuinely want to do for God, and that doesn't diminish the worth of our sincere desire. Solomon is learning that his father's faithful heart mattered to the Lord, and that same approval extends now to Solomon as he takes up the work his father began.
