What does 1 Kings 3:25 mean?

Solomon's wisdom appears here at first to look like cruelty. Two women both claimed to be the mother of the same infant, and with no witnesses to the truth, Solomon proposed cutting the child in half as a "solution." His real purpose was to reveal who the true mother was, because he understood how love works: the genuine mother would rather lose her claim than see her child harmed, while the other woman had already shown she cared more about getting an equal share than about the child's wellbeing. This moment became legendary because it shows that genuine wisdom isn't just about knowing laws or facts, it's about understanding human nature and what people truly care about. When you're facing a situation where the right answer isn't obvious, sometimes the wisest move is to look deeper at what people's reactions reveal about their hearts.
