What does 1 Kings 22:48 mean?
King Jehoshaphat had ambitious plans to build a merchant fleet that would sail to distant lands and return with valuable gold and goods. It was a reasonable idea from a practical standpoint, a way to increase wealth and expand trade influence. But the ships never made their journey, wrecked before they could even leave port at Ezion Geber, and the whole venture fell apart. Sometimes our carefully laid plans fail before they even begin, and that's worth sitting with. This wasn't a matter of Jehoshaphat being lazy or unfaithful, but of circumstances beyond his control.
