What does 1 Kings 22:16 mean?
King Ahab is demanding that the prophet Micaiah stop softening his words and tell him what he really believes God is saying, even if it contradicts what Ahab wants to hear. The king has been frustrated by Micaiah's initial cooperation with the false prophets around him, so he's using an oath (adjure) to compel honesty. What's striking here is that Ahab actually seems aware he's been hearing what he wants rather than what's true, yet he's irritated at being called out on it.
