1 Kings 18:30
“Elijah said to all the people, “Come near to me!”; and all the people came near to him. He repaired Yahweh’s altar that had been thrown down.”
What does 1 Kings 18:30 mean?
Elijah is calling the people to gather close and witness what he's about to do. He then rebuilds God's altar, which had been destroyed during years when the wicked King Ahab and Queen Jezebel had pushed Israel toward worshipping the false god Baal. This moment matters because Elijah is literally and symbolically restoring what had been broken, inviting the people to come near and see God's faithfulness restored alongside the physical altar. It's an act of faith before the famous showdown where God will send fire from heaven, and Elijah wants the people right there to see it happen.
