What does 1 Kings 14:1 mean?
This simple opening line launches one of the Bible's quieter but more revealing stories about faith and power. Abijah was the son of Jeroboam, the first king of the northern kingdom of Israel, and he was apparently loved by his father. When the boy fell gravely ill, Jeroboam's response tells us something important about what he believed, even though he had led his entire nation away from worshipping at the temple in Jerusalem.
