1 Kings 13:33

After this thing Jeroboam didn’t return from his evil way, but again made priests of the high places from among all the people. Whoever wanted to, he consecrated him, that there might be priests of the high places.

What does 1 Kings 13:33 mean?

Even after witnessing God's judgment (a prophet's prediction came true right before him), Jeroboam doubled down on his religious rebellion rather than turning back. He kept promoting unauthorized priests at illegal worship sites, letting anyone who wanted the position become a priest, which completely undermined the proper priesthood God had established. This shows how stubborn resistance to God can actually harden our hearts further, especially when we've already seen evidence of his power. Sometimes the scariest thing isn't that God stops reaching us, but that we become so committed to our own way that we keep running deeper into it.
