1 Kings 13:16
βHe said, βI may not return with you, nor go in with you. I will not eat bread or drink water with you in this place.β
What does 1 Kings 13:16 mean?
This is a prophet speaking to another man who has just invited him to rest and eat. The first prophet had received a direct command from God not to eat or drink in that particular place, and he's explaining why he can't accept the invitation, no matter how kind it is. The refusal might seem harsh, but it shows what it meant to take God's word seriously in Old Testament times. For this prophet, staying faithful to what God told him to do was more important than comfort or companionship. It's a reminder that following through on commitments, especially spiritual ones, sometimes means saying no to good things that would pull us away from what we're supposed to be doing.
