What does 1 Kings 11:35 mean?

God is speaking through the prophet Ahijah to Jeroboam, promising him that he'll become king over most of Israel. Solomon's son will keep only a small portion (Judah and Benjamin), while Jeroboam gets ten tribes, making him the ruler of the larger northern kingdom. This happened because Solomon had turned away from God, breaking the covenant that had blessed his family's reign, so God was withdrawing the privilege of ruling the whole nation from Solomon's descendants.
