What does 1 Kings 1:6 mean?
This verse describes Adonijah, one of King David's sons, and hints at why he became so problematic. David never confronted or disciplined him, which allowed Adonijah to grow up believing he could do whatever he wanted. Combined with his good looks and his position as the oldest surviving son after Absalom's death, Adonijah developed an inflated sense of his own importance and entitlement. The verse is essentially explaining how a lack of loving boundaries, even from a king, can nurture a dangerous arrogance in someone—and how that would soon lead him to dangerously claim his father's throne without permission.
