1 John 3:2
“Beloved, now we are children of God, and it is not yet revealed what we will be. But we know that, when he is revealed, we will be like him; for we will see him just as he is.”
What does 1 John 3:2 mean?
John writes to people who already belong to God, reminding them of something true about them right now: they are his children. But then he points to the future, to a reality that's hidden from us still. We don't yet know what our full transformation into Christ's likeness will look like, because we haven't seen God face-to-face as we someday will. The promise here is stunning in its simplicity. When we finally see Jesus as he truly is, unfiltered and complete, something will happen in us. We won't just understand him better or feel closer to him; we'll become like him. This speaks to a deep longing many of us carry: to know who we're really meant to be. In the presence of perfect love, perfect holiness, perfect truth, we'll be remade into his image. It's not something we have to earn or achieve through effort. It's the fruit of seeing him and being seen by him, fully and completely.
