1 John 2:9
βHe who says he is in the light and hates his brother, is in the darkness even until now.β
What does 1 John 2:9 mean?
When we claim to follow Jesus (to be "in the light"), our treatment of other people reveals whether that's actually true. If we harbor hatred toward someone, we're contradicting ourselves, because genuine faith reshapes how we relate to others. John is saying this plainly: your words about your faith matter far less than what you actually do with the people around you. Hatred is a darkness that proves we haven't truly encountered God's transforming love yet.
