1 John 2:27
“As for you, the anointing which you received from him remains in you, and you don’t need for anyone to teach you. But as his anointing teaches you concerning all things, and is true, and is no lie, and even as it taught you, you will remain in him.”
What does 1 John 2:27 mean?
John is telling us that when we belong to Jesus, we receive God's Spirit, and that Spirit is our real teacher. This doesn't mean we never need human guidance or community wisdom, but it means we have direct access to God's truth working inside us, and we can trust that inner knowing. The passage speaks to people who might feel vulnerable or uncertain, perhaps doubting whether they can really know God for themselves. John's point is reassuring: you already have what you need. That same Spirit that taught you when you first came to faith is still there, still active, still helping you recognize truth from falsehood. You can trust your own discernment because God's presence in you is real and trustworthy.
