1 Corinthians 9:14
βEven so the Lord ordained that those who proclaim the Good News should live from the Good News.β
What does 1 Corinthians 9:14 mean?
Paul is describing a basic principle of fairness: people who dedicate their lives to sharing the gospel should be able to support themselves through that work. Just as a farmer eats from his own crop and a soldier benefits from the spoils of war, those in ministry deserve to receive practical support from the communities they serve. This doesn't mean spiritual work is transactional or that faith is a business. Rather, Paul is defending the dignity of those who choose full-time ministry, saying it's right and reasonable for churches to care for their leaders' physical needs. It's a reminder that supporting those who shepherd us spiritually is an act of justice, not charity.
