What does 1 Corinthians 9:12 mean?
Paul is talking about his right as an apostle to be financially supported by the churches he serves, which other apostles and church leaders were claiming. Instead of insisting on payment, he chose to work with his own hands and live modestly, giving up what was legitimately his. He made this sacrifice so nothing would get in the way of people hearing and believing the gospel message, wanting no one to dismiss Christianity because they thought he was just in it for money. This reveals Paul's deep priority: the spread of Christ's message mattered more to him than comfort or what he was owed. It's an invitation to consider where our own needs and rights might sometimes compete with our larger purpose, and whether there are ways we could let go of something legitimate for the sake of something greater.
