1 Corinthians 8:6
“yet to us there is one God, the Father, of whom are all things, and we for him; and one Lord, Jesus Christ, through whom are all things, and we live through him.”
What does 1 Corinthians 8:6 mean?
Paul is affirming something central to Christian faith: that despite living in a world full of competing gods and lords (Roman culture had plenty of both), believers belong to one God and follow one Lord. Everything that exists comes from God the Father, and everything we do ultimately matters because we exist for him. Jesus isn't competing with the Father but working alongside him, as the one through whom God created everything and through whom we actually experience life moment by moment. This matters especially if you're wrestling with divided loyalties or wondering whose voice to listen to. Paul is gently reminding his readers that clarity about who God is and who Jesus is brings freedom and simplicity to living.
