What does 1 Corinthians 7:29 mean?
Paul is urging the Corinthian church not to become consumed by ordinary life concerns because he believed Jesus's return was imminent. He's not saying marriage is bad or that married people should abandon their families, but rather that our ultimate loyalty and focus should remain on God rather than being completely absorbed in earthly relationships and responsibilities. This doesn't mean detachment or neglect, but rather a kind of lightness of grip, holding our circumstances loosely. The point is to keep perspective: whether you're married or single, wealthy or poor, your deepest identity and hope rest in Christ, not in the status or comfort these things provide. It's an invitation to freedom from anxiety and overinvestment in things that won't last forever.
