1 Corinthians 7:18
“Was anyone called having been circumcised? Let him not become uncircumcised. Has anyone been called in uncircumcision? Let him not be circumcised.”
What does 1 Corinthians 7:18 mean?
Paul is writing to Christians in a divided community, and he's encouraging people not to undo who they are or where they come from. In the early church, some Jewish believers felt pressure to hide their Jewish identity (hence the odd reference to undoing circumcision, which was physically attempted by some in ancient times), while some non-Jewish believers felt pressure to become more "Jewish" to fit in spiritually. His point is simple and freeing: your identity before you met Christ doesn't need to be erased or artificially changed. What matters is that you've answered God's call. Whether you're Jewish or not, from a particular culture or background, those things aren't obstacles to overcome, and they're not what make you more or less acceptable to God. The unity of the church doesn't require everyone to look the same or come from the same place.
