What does 1 Corinthians 7:15 mean?
When a spouse who doesn't share your faith chooses to leave the marriage, Paul says you're not obligated to chase after them or remain bound to that commitment. He's speaking to a painful reality: sometimes a mixed-faith marriage becomes so fractured that one person walks away, and in those circumstances, the believing spouse is released from the marital obligation. The phrase "God has called us in peace" means you don't need to live in constant guilt or turmoil about the separation, trying to hold together something the other person has already let go of. Paul's point is compassionate, recognizing both the heartbreak of divorce and the freedom that comes when you stop blaming yourself for someone else's choice to leave.
