What does 1 Corinthians 4:20 mean?

Paul is reminding the Corinthians that faith isn't ultimately about impressive speeches or clever arguments, but about real transformation and God's actual work in people's lives. The church was getting caught up in following charismatic teachers with fancy rhetoric, but Paul is saying that what truly matters is when God's kingdom actually changes hearts, heals wounds, and brings people into restored relationship with him. This is especially comforting when you're struggling, because it means God doesn't need polished words or perfect theology from us—he works through ordinary people doing ordinary things in faith, and that's where his power really shows up.
