1 Corinthians 14:18
βI thank my God, I speak with other languages more than you all.β
What does 1 Corinthians 14:18 mean?
Paul is sharing something personal here, letting the Corinthians know that he himself practices speaking in tongues more than any of them do. He's not bragging, but rather establishing credibility as someone who actually has experience with the gift he's about to discuss and regulate. Since the Corinthians were getting caught up in spiritual gifts and needed guidance on using them wisely, Paul is essentially saying, "I'm not speaking from inexperience here, I know what this is like." It's a humble way of saying, "I understand this practice intimately, so listen to what I have to say about how it should work in your community."
