What does 1 Corinthians 14:13 mean?

When someone in the church speaks in a language unknown to the listeners, Paul says they should also ask God for the ability to translate what they've just said. This isn't about being multilingual in the ordinary sense, but about the spiritual gift of speaking in tongues and making that gift understandable to others. Paul cares deeply that church gatherings actually build people up and draw them closer to God, which only happens when folks can follow what's being communicated. The underlying message is practical and kind: if you're using a gift that might confuse others, take responsibility for making sure they benefit from it too.
