What does 1 Corinthians 12:7 mean?
The Spirit gives each person in the Christian community a particular gift or ability, not for personal glory, but specifically for the benefit of everyone around them. Paul is addressing a church where people were getting competitive about their spiritual gifts, so he's reminding them that these abilities aren't status symbols. Whatever strength, insight, or capacity God has given you is meant to be used in service of others, making the whole community stronger and healthier.
