What does 1 Corinthians 12:14 mean?

Paul is reminding the church in Corinth that they're not a single person with one role, but a community of many different people with different gifts and abilities. Just as a physical body needs eyes, hands, feet, and other parts working together, the church needs teachers, helpers, leaders, encouragers, and others using their unique strengths. This was a crucial message for a congregation that seemed to be comparing spiritual gifts and making some people feel less valuable than others. When you understand yourself as one part of something larger that needs your particular contribution, it changes how you see both yourself and the people around you.
