For as woman came from man, so a man also comes through a woman; but all things are from God.

What does 1 Corinthians 11:12 mean?

Paul is wrapping up his point about the relationship between men and women by acknowledging a simple reality: yes, woman was created from man's side (as Genesis describes), but every man who has ever lived came into the world through a woman. He's gently pointing out that neither gender can claim independence from the other, since they exist in mutual dependence. Then he steps back from the whole discussion to remind everyone of what matters most: all of this—men, women, life itself—ultimately comes from God, not from either gender's superiority or achievement. It's a brief but powerful reminder that when we're tempted to rank people or claim special status, we're missing the larger truth that we're all dependent on God and deserving of mutual respect.
