What does 1 Corinthians 10:5 mean?
Paul is reminding the Corinthians of Israel's time wandering in the desert after leaving Egypt, when the people repeatedly complained and turned away from God despite witnessing his miracles. Even though God had chosen them and freed them from slavery, their unfaithfulness meant they didn't experience his full blessing, and many died before reaching the promised land. He's writing this as a caution to the early church: being chosen by God or having spiritual experiences isn't automatic protection from falling away. What matters is how we respond, day by day, with trust and obedience. If you're in a difficult season where you feel distant from God or stuck spiritually, this verse acknowledges that struggle is real, but it also suggests that turning back toward faithfulness is always possible.
