1 Corinthians 10:16

The cup of blessing which we bless, isn’t it a sharing of the blood of Christ? The bread which we break, isn’t it a sharing of the body of Christ?

What does 1 Corinthians 10:16 mean?

When we gather to share communion, Paul is asking us to recognize what's actually happening in that moment. The cup and bread aren't just symbols we pass around, they represent our real participation in Christ's sacrifice and his life given for us. He's drawing a connection between the physical act of eating and drinking together and the spiritual reality that we're joined to Christ and to each other through what he accomplished on the cross. This communion meal binds us together as one body, united in receiving the grace that Jesus offers.
