1 Corinthians 1:15
“so that no one should say that I had baptized you into my own name.”
What does 1 Corinthians 1:15 mean?
Paul is clarifying that when he baptized people in Corinth, he didn't do it to draw them into loyalty to himself or to build his own following. In that culture, baptism into someone's name meant pledging allegiance to them, much like joining a movement around a particular leader. Paul is saying he baptized people into Christ's name alone, not to create a "Paul fan club" or to make people his devoted followers. This matters because the Corinthian church was later splitting into rival groups, each claiming loyalty to different leaders, and Paul is trying to redirect them back to what actually matters: their shared faith in Jesus, not their attachment to human teachers.
