What does 1 Corinthians 1:12 mean?
The Corinthian church had split into competing groups, each claiming loyalty to a different Christian leader. Paul, Apollos, and Cephas (Peter) were all respected teachers, but the church members were turning their preferences into divisions, almost like picking sides in a sports rivalry. By listing these names and then adding "I follow Christ," Paul is gently pointing out how absurd it is to pledge allegiance to human leaders when Jesus himself is the foundation they all share. He's not criticizing the leaders themselves, but rather calling out the pride and factionalism that can poison a community when people forget what actually unites them.
