1 Chronicles 29:11
“Yours, Yahweh, is the greatness, the power, the glory, the victory, and the majesty! For all that is in the heavens and in the earth is yours. Yours is the kingdom, Yahweh, and you are exalted as head above all.”
What does 1 Chronicles 29:11 mean?
King David prays this as he's gathering resources for the temple his son Solomon will build. He's acknowledging that everything he has, and everything his people possess, ultimately belongs to God, not to them. It's a beautiful moment of humility from a powerful ruler. The verse reminds us that greatness, strength, honor, and authority all flow from God's character and belong to him alone. When David lists these qualities, he's not saying God needs our acknowledgment to be great, but rather he's inviting his people (and us) to see reality clearly: we're stewards of what God has made, not owners. This perspective doesn't diminish us, it actually frees us from the burden of thinking everything depends on our own power or cleverness. When we recognize that God holds everything, we can release our white-knuckled grip on control and trust that we're part of something much larger and more secure than ourselves.
